Alfred Vogel, age 87, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Whispering Heights Nursing Home in Rock Valley, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be Friday, March 6, 2015 at 1:30 P.M. at Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa. Rev. Bobby Van Otterloo officiating.

Graveside Services will be 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 6, at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, Iowa. Rev. Marvin Leese officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 5, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. with the family present at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

The Funeral for Al Vogel will be on Cable Station #77 at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, March 6, 2015 from the Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley.

Alfred Vogel was born on July 31, 1927 in Bigelow, Minnesota. He was the son of John and Anna Marie (Runia) Vogel. He lived his youth in rural Bigelow working on the family farm, attended school and graduated from Bigelow High School. He served in the United States Army from January of 1945 to January of 1946 and was honorably discharged.
He was united in marriage to Etta Weg of Bigelow on March 27, 1953. They lived in Sibley, Iowa, where Al worked at Armour Packing Plant in Worthington, Minnesota. In 1960, Al started working for the U. S. Postal Service in Sibley, where he worked until his retirement in 1988. Al and Etta enjoyed camping as a family and traveling. Etta passed away on December 15, 1988.
Al was a member of the Sibley Christian Reformed Church where he served as an Elder and Cadet Leader. He also was a board member of Western Christian High School and Hope Haven. He was a member of the American Legion.
He enjoyed spending his time golfing, bowling, playing pool and snooker at the Palace Café, woodworking, and helping Roger Smidt at the locker plant.
Al will be remembered as an easy going person who was content with life.
In 2009, Al moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, Iowa, and in 2013, to Whispering Heights Nursing Home in Rock Valley, Iowa, where he passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015.
Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter and son-in-law: Debra Jean and Lee Van Ruler of Sioux Falls, SD; son and daughter-in-law: Dayton Jerome and Deb Vogel of Rock Valley, IA; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Etta; his parents; 3 brothers: Frank Vogel, Pete Vogel, and Neil Vogel; nephew, Denny Vogel, who was like a brother to him.
