From the Rock Valley Bee, March 31, 1911:

James Geaghan died of pneumonia Tuesday at the hospital. He had been sick for several days but was taken to the hospital only the day before his death. He was a man forty-eight years old, single and his home was at Communia, in the eastern part of the state where he has relatives. His sister Mrs. Wm. Downey of Communia arrived Wednesday and he has a brother, Frank Geaghan who lives in South Dakota who is expected to arrive before the remains are shipped to his home for burial.

Mr. Geaghan spent the winter in eastern Iowa coming here about three weeks ago. During the summer he had worked for farmers in this vicinity. He was an honest hard working man. He carried [insurance] of $1000 in the Woodman lodge, the policy being drawn in favor of his brother in South Dakota. The remains were taken to his home for burial.
