Charles Kempema, age 92, of Rock Valley, died Sunday, March 1, 1992 at the Valley Manor Nursing Home at Rock Valley. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley. Burial will be at the Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Rev. C. Eric Fennema will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday with the family present 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

Charles was born July 23, 1899 at Hornick, Iowa. He was the son of Riemer and Minnie (Vedders) Kempema. He married Sophie Meendering on September 10, 1920 at Rock Valley. Together they farmed near Rock Valley, George, Iowa and Hull, Iowa before retiring and moving to Rock Valley in 1967. THey moved to the Valley Manor Nursing Home of Rock Valley in July 1986. Sophie died May 2, 1989.

Surviving relatives include one son, John of Rock Valley, 3 daughters, Mrs. John (Gert) Blankespoor of Rock Valley, Mrs. Joe (Hermie) Hall of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Mrs. Art (Margaret) Van Otterloo of Hull, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Sylvia Kempema of Rock Valley; 2 brothers, Johna nd Herman of Rock Valley; 3 sisters, Mrs. Martin (Jennie) Kooistra of Inwood, Iowa, Mrs. Peter (Freida) Groeneweg of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Mrs. John D. (Jeanette) Van Maanen of Rock Valley; 28 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie; one son, Raymond; 3 brothers, Henry, Ernest, and Clarence, and one sister, Fannie Kooistra
