Robert “Bob” L. Youngers, the son of P.L. and Susanna (Robinet) Youngers, was born on March 15, 1927 in Sheldon, Iowa. He graduated from the Hospers High School in 1944. Bob farmed his entire life. On February 12, 1955 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” McCarty at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa. The young couple made their home on a farm near Archer, Iowa where they raised their family. In 1991, Bob retired from farming and they moved into Sheldon. Betty preceded him in death on January 17, 1999. Bob remained in Sheldon, keeping busy helping his sons on the farm. Bob passed away on February 20, 2015 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 87 years, 11 months and 5 days.
Bob was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon. He was a member of the Sheldon Knights of Columbus, holding the office of Financial Secretary for many years. He was also a member of the Sheldon Prairie Queen Noon Kiwanis, treasurer of the Prairie Arts Council and served on the Midwest Farmers Coop Elevator Board. He was interested in genealogy and was a member of the Luxembourg Society. In his younger years he was involved with the Sheldon Municipal Band and he also enjoyed playing the piano.
Bob leaves to cherish his memories to his 7 children and their spouses, Tom (Lisa) Youngers of Sheldon; Dennis (Sara) Youngers of Sheldon; Kathy (Royce) Ranniger of Sioux City, IA; Julie (Craig) Tjebben of West Des Moines, IA; Nancy (James) Brady of Sioux Falls, SD; Mark (Denise) Youngers of Urbandale, IA and Jeanne (Travis) Thompson of Brandon, SD. “Papa Bob” is also survived by his 20 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a brother, Ray (Elvira) Youngers of Mesa, AZ; a sister, Marie Streff of Sheldon; and 10 in-laws, Robert McCarty of Sheldon; Bob and Peggy Naughton of Houston, TX; Carol McCarty and Regina McCarty both of Sheldon; Rita McCarty of Spencer, IA; Jean Abels of Buckeye, AZ; Patricia Rodkewich of St. Paul, MN; Theresa McCarty of Centerville, IA; Marge Youngers of Sheldon and Peggy Youngers of Milwaukee, WI; and many other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, and his brothers, Howard, Alfred, Marion and Peter.
