Hawarden Independent May 16, 1985

Earl F. Smith, 87, of Hawarden, died Friday, May 10, 1985, in Hillcrest Care Center at Hawarden. Services were at 11:00 a.m. Monday in United Methodist Church at Hawarden. Rev. Paul Hansen officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ernest Packard, J. Lawrence Schiefen, Lawrence Williams, Rex Truesdell, Bernard Smith and Gilbert Smith. Mr.

Smith was born Nov. 12, 1897, near Hawarden. He married Myrtle Miller July 5, 1921, in Hawarden. He was employed by the post office in 1930, and was a rural mail carrier from 1946 until his retirement in 1967. Mrs. Smith died Feb. 13,1983. He served in World War I. He was a member of United Methodist Church, the Hawarden American Legion, and the Last Man's Club of the American Legion.

Survivors include one daughter, Maxine Nordling of Hawarden; two granddaughters, and four greatgrandchildren.
