Born: July 16, 1920 Middleburg, Iowa
Died: August 9, 2003 Sioux City, Iowa

Geraldean, Hofmeyer, 83, Sheldon, died Sat. Aug. 9 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City.

Services were Wed. Aug. 13, at United Methodist Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Burial was at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, under the direction of Sheldon Funeral Service.

Geraldean Hofmeyer, daughter of Henry and Katie (De Young) Van Der Wilt, was born July 16, 1920 in Middleburg, where she lived until she was seven years old. She moved with her family to rural Sibley, where she attended a country school and graduated from Sibley High School. She married Howard E. Hofmeyer of Sibley on Dec. 29, 1938 in Ocheyedan. They lived in Sibley. In 1960 they moved to Sheldon, where they owned and operated Dairy Dandy Drive Inn and owned Hartley Drive Inn in Hartley. They retired in 1981.

She was a member of Sheldon United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of the Ladies Circle. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching them play sports. She also enjoyed playing Bronco with the neighborhood women.

Survivors include her husband, Howard of Sheldon; a son, Eldon Hofmeyer of West Des Moines; a daughter Patricia and Larry Kleinhesselink of Sheldon; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother Ervin Van Der Wilt of Sioux City; and a sister, Angeline Nattress of Sibley.

She was preceded in death by a son, George Hofmeyer; five sisters; and three brothers.
