Rock Valley - Ella Loverink, 90, Rock Valley, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley.

Services will be 1 p.m., today (Saturday, Dec. 13) at First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. Roger Sparks officiating. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Ella Loverink, daughter of Peter & Lizzie (Travoli) Boer, was born March 15, 1913, in Rock Valley. She married Hubert Loverink on Feb. 1, 1945, in Rock Valley. They farmed until Mr. Loverink's death on April 27, 1977. She then worked as a Foster Grandparent at Hope Haven for 25 years. She was well known as the "Sloppy Joe Lady" at Green Acres.

She was a lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. She was active in circle and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed visiting with people, the morning coffee crew, playing UNO with the residents at Hope Haven, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with Harold Boer and Betty De Boer.

Survivors include a son, John & Suzan Loverink of Rock Valley; a daughter, Lavina & Gerald Brands of Inwood; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; a niece, Betty De Boer of Rock Valley, and a nephew, Harold Boer of Sioux Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Loverink; a sister, Effie Smeenk; and four brothers, John Boer, Ray Boer, Herman Boer and Henry Boer.
