MAUREEN A. "BUTZ" VAN BERGEN, age 91, of Adrian, formerly of Worthington, died Friday, September 15, 2006, at the Arnold Memorial Health Care Center, in Adrian.

The funeral service was held on Monday afternoon, September 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington, with Father Gerald Kosse officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Worthington. Visitation was held late Sunday afternoon and evening, September 17, at Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington and also one hour prior to the service.

She was born July 3, 1915, in Alton, Iowa, to Henry and Josephine (Nemmers) Kokenge. Maureen grew up in Alton, Iowa and attended school at St. Mary?s Academy. She was raised by her sisters as her mother died when Maureen was three years old. She worked for various people, in Alton, cleaning & helping with their children.

Maureen married Wilfred Van Bergen on April 15, 1941, in Alton, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Granville, Iowa. In June of 1963, they moved to Worthington, where Maureen worked at Ehlers Steak House, Campbell's Soup Co. & various places as a housekeeper. She became a resident of the Arnold Memorial Health Care Center, in Adrian, in February of 2005.

Maureen is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Roger Van Bergen, Minneapolis; Jane & John Grady, Loveland, Colorado; Judy Van Bergen, Edwards, CO; Ronnie & Brenda Van Bergen, Finland, Minnesota; Bill Van Bergen, Minneapolis; Bev & Dave Frisch, Worthington; Darlene & Merlin Teerink, Worthington; and Lana & Lonnie Hazelwood, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; twelve grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilfred, in 1986; granddaughter, Kari Teerink, in 2004. She was the last to survive her siblings of five brothers, four sisters, four half brothers, & two half sisters.
