Mitchel David Scheitler, 18-month son of Jed and Jennie Scheitler of Maurice, died Sunday, April 8, at Children’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, following a three-month struggle with cancer.

Services were Thursday, April 12, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Oyens, with the Reverends Eugene Murray and John Vakulskas officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery, under the direction of Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mitchel Scheitler, son of Jed and Jennie (Becvar) Scheitler, was born October 8, 2005, in Orange City. He lived in Maurice with his parents and was diagnosed with cancer in January of this year.

He enjoyed pushing his toy cars and trucks around as he made little motor noises. He also enjoyed looking at his books and watching his Thomas and Friends video.

Survivors include his parents, Jed and Jeannie Scheitler of Maurice; maternal grandparents, David and Susan Becvar of Wagner, South Dakota; paternal grandparents, Lyle and Betty Scheitler of Le Mars; maternal great-grandmother, Helen Becvar of Tyndall, South Dakota; and paternal great-grandparents, Alvin and Caroline Scheitler of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents Daniel Becvar and Otto and Dorothy Fousek; paternal great-grandparents, Alfred and Fern Haring; and an uncle, Joseph Lyle Scheitler.
