Rock Valley, Iowa: Ronald W. Henderson, 83, of Hudson, SD formerly of Rock Valley, Iowa died Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in Canton, SD. Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley, Iowa with Rev. Todd Schlitter officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 7:00-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Ronald William Henderson was born January 21, 1932 in Rock Valley to Olin and Viola Mae (Osborne) Henderson. He was the youngest of 5 children. He attended school through the 6th grade and later earned his GED in 1984. Ron joined the US Army on September 1, 1950. He was stationed in Colorado Springs, Washington, and Anchorage Alaska during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954. On May 12, 1973, Ron married Marilyn Groenewold in Adrian, Minnesota. Together they made their home in Rock Valley until moving to Hudson in 2004. Ron worked construction, was a farm hand, paved Hwy 18 and many City of Rock Valley roads, before working at Roorda Machine as a welder for 49 years. He retired in 1996.

Ron loved the outdoors. He trapped from age 7 until 2003, hunted, fished, and trap shot from 1950-1972. He enjoyed bowling league, playing poker at the Gun Club, and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. Ron was a lifetime member of the NTA, VFW, and Hudson American Legion.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Marilyn; children, Heather Mace (special friend, Josh Kremer) of Hawarden, Iowa, Ronald William the second (Sara) Henderson of Hawarden, Iowa, and Ira (Andy) Bearbower of Windsor Heights, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, Amber and Brittany Mace, and Layla Henderson; 3 honorary grandchildren, Bradly, Alexis, and Michael Kremer; and sister-in-law, Augusta (Bob) Redfield of Brandon, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Henderson; and sisters, Edith (Peter) Visser, Elnora (True) Bell, and Mildred (Merle) Lund.
