Duane Schelling, 43, of Hawarden, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Funeral service was March 1 at the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Jeff Swanson officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Duane Schelling was born March 20, 1959 at Hawarden, the son of Cornie L. & Carol (Cain) Schelling. He attended West Sioux High School and married Pam Richters, April 12, 1985, at Hawarden. They made their home in Hawarden and he was employed with Diamond Vogel Paints in Orange City.

Survivors include his wife, Pam; two daughters, Amanda and Jessica, both at home; his father, Cornie L. Schelling and his wife Shirley of Hawarden; mother-in-law, Lucille Dorhout and her husband Dick of Rock Valley, IA; a brother, Alvin Van Den Top, Jr. of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Theresa Schelling and Bonnie Jurrens both of Hawarden, sister-in-law, Mavis Van Beek; and brothers-in-law, Darryl Richters of Plymouth, Mass, and Mark Richters of Foley, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Schelling; his father-in-law, Richard R. Richters; maternal grandmother, Jessie Miniets; and paternal grandparents, Lane & Gertie Schelling.
