Funeral services for L. H. Searle, 95, one of Hawarden's oldest residents, were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 in the Barnard Funeral Home and at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church, Rev. S. A. Kruschwitz officiating. Burial was at Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Searle, a pioneer farmer and stock feeder in this territory, died at the Panska Nursing home Saturday. He had not been well since he suffered a fractured pelvis in a fall last summer.

He was born at Rippon, Wis., November 6, 1860, the third of seven children. In 1885 he purchased land in Washington township and lived with his brother and wife, Mr. & Mrs. P. W. Searle, for a year. He then returned to Rippon where he married Rana Elizabeth Shayette on March 9, 1886. In 1936 they observed their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Searle died the following year.

He retired and moved to his home in Hawarden in 1944. Later he made his home with Mrs. Mae Heumphreus who died last January. All three of his children preceded him in death, including Mrs. Heumphreus and Mrs. Ida Wasser of Hawarden and Alfred Searle of Redwood Falls, MN.

Pall bearers were six grandsons. Survivors include ten grandchildren, Lloyd Wasser of Mount Rose, SD; Maxine Eberlien of Denver, CO; Wayne Searle and Gene Searle of Fairbault, MN; and Warren Wasser, Mrs. Evelyn Treiber, Hobert Wasser, Mrs. Coleen Walker, Hayes Wasser and Don Heumphreus, all of Hawarden. Another grandson, Ralph Heumphreus was killed while serving with the armed forces in 1945. He also is survived by eight nieces, six nephews and 30 great grandchildren.
