Darwin Duane Hancock, 40, of Hospers died Wednesday, May 10, at his residence. A funeral service was Saturday at 9 a.m. at First Presbyterian Churchin Hospers with the Rev. Brian Janssen officiating. There will be a graveside service was Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Miller, South Dakota.

Hancock was born on March 29, 1966, in Albany, Oregon, the son of Leonard Duane "Steve" and Linda Joyce (Hedge) Hancock. His family moved to Wessington, South Dakota, and later to Bigelow, Minnesota, where he attended school and graduated from the Worthington, Minnesota, High School. He alsoattended the Pipestone, Minnesota, Vocational-Technical School. He then made his home at Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Waterloo, settling at Hospers about four years ago. He was employed at Link Manufacturing in Sioux Center, and since January of this year has worked at Den Hartog Industries in Hospers, where he was a metal fabricator. He loved God's creation and spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. He was a loving and gentle man, who was a wonderful father and cared for his dog, "Passion."

Survivors include his two daughters, Tasha and Erica Hancock, both of Evansdale; his parents, Steve and Linda Hancock of Bigelow; his grandmothers, Hazel Hancock of Miller and Leona Hedge of Wessington; a brother and his wife, Rick and Patti Hancock of Chamberlain, South Dakota; a sister and her husband, Sandi and Michael Robinson of Hospers; six nephews and nieces; his special friend, Hope Bents, and her four children, Ciara, Santanna, Kaleb and Colton, all of Fulda, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ivan Hancock and Vernon Hedge; and a brother, Bradley Hancock.
