Tillie Vande Brake, 92, of Sioux Center died Friday, November 29, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital Nursing Facility.

Funeral service was Monday Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Tillie Vande Brake was born May 5, 1910 in Sioux Center, the daughter of Henry H. and Rena (Mulder) Vande Brake. She was raised at Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School. As a young woman she moved to Chicago where she began work as a nurse's aide. She spent 40 years caring for mothers and newborns in the maternity ward at Woodlawn Hospital in Chicago. In 1985, she returned to Sioux Center, and in Nov. of 2001 she became a resident of Crown Pointe Assisted Living Center.

She was a member of First Reformed Church, where she sang in the church choir. She was also active in the church's Priscilla Circle and Sunday School classes, as well as various Bible studies. She was always interested in learning new things and thoroughly enjoyed taking classes on a wide range of subjects. In earlier years, she enjoyed swimming and had won numerous swimming awards during her time in Chicago.

Survivors include her brother, Jake Vande Brake, and brother-in-law and his wife, Gerben and Lena De Vries, all of Sioux Center; and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bert and his wife Agnes, Henry and his wife Ida, and another Bert in infancy; two sisters, Agnes De Vries and Priscilla and her husband Ed Van Putten; and a sister-in-law, Frieda Vande Brake.
