Dolores, 80, and Paul F. Ferrie, 81, each of Orange City, died recently.

Dolores died on Sunday, March 30, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital in Orange City. Paul died on Monday, April 7, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City. Private services will be held on Saturday April 19, 2008 for both Paul and his wife Dolores at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. Rev. John Vakulskas will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Alton. Fish Funeral Home of Remsen is in charge of arrangements.

Delores was born on June 28, 1927, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Emil and Susan (Sullivan) Hassing.

Paul was born on March 22, 1927, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Herbert and Olive (Rank) Ferrie.

Each was raised and educated at Sioux Falls.

Dolores was then an operator for Bell Telephone in Sioux Falls.

On January 25, 1945, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army, in which he served as a paratrooper until he was honorably discharged on January 17, 1947

On September 22, 1947, the couple was married at Sioux Falls, where they made their home. Paul worked for the railroad and also attended bar.

In 1964 they moved to Wahpeton, North Dakota. Paul was a very accomplished fast-pitch softball player, who was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame for pitching.

In 1985, the couple moved to Jefferson and in January of 2008 to Orange City. Paul was a member of the V.F.W. and Dolores was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary at Wahpeton, North Dakota.

Survivors include daughter Susan and her husband Earl Senn of Alton; sons and their wives, Paul and Deborah of Moorhead, Minnesota, and Russ and JoAnn of Bismark, North Dakota; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. They are further survived by sisters and sister-in-law Dorothy and her husband John Adams of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Darlene Hefner of Demotte, Indiana; brother and brother-in-law and his wife Roger and Shirley Ferrie; and sisters and sisters-in-law and their husbands, Ruth and Dean Middlan and Olive and Robert McCain, all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Buster and sister, Margaret.
