Alfred Feil, 77, Rock Valley, died Monday, August 26, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Services were Thursday, August 29, at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. John Engbers officiating. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, under the direction of Porter Funeral Homes in Rock Valley.

Alfred Feil, son of Jacob and Otillia (Dockter) Feil, was born September 17, 1924, in Lincoln Valley, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school nearby. He was called to service during World War II. He served with the U.S. Army 1944-46. He married Lillie Filler on May 27, 1945, at Anamoose Baptist Church in Anamoose, North Dakota. They lived in Oakland, California while he was serving. After his discharge in 1946, they moved back to North Dakota, where he began farming in the Martin, North Dakota, area. They moved in 1966 to Minot, North Dakota, where he worked as a welder and took up blacksmithing, and began his own blacksmithing business. After he suffered a heart attack in 1985, they moved to Rock Valley to be nearer to family. He continued his blacksmithing business in Rock Valley.

He was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. He enjoyed music, playing the piano and organ, and singing in quartets and choirs. He also enjoyed playing cards, pool and bowling with family and friends but he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lillie Feil of Rock Valley; a daughter, Carol and Keith Pollema of Rock Valley; four grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Palma Dockter of McClusky, North Dakota; and two brothers, Herbert Feil of Beulah, North Dakota, and Arthur and Arlene Feil of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Albert Feil; a sister, Anna Dockter; a sister-in-law, Ruth Feil; and two brothers-in-law, Martin Dockter and Edward Dockter.
