Peter Sinkey, well known Ireton resident, passed away at his home last Friday, January 7, following a lingering illness. Death was caused by cancer.

Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock at the home and at the Christian Reformed Church at 2 o’clock on Monday afternoon, with the Rev. J.R. Van Dyke and Rev. O’Breen in charge. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Peter Sinkey, was born January 20, 1877, at Zeeland, Nebraska. In the year of 1891, he came to America and four years he lived in Wright County, Iowa. He came to Sioux County in 1896. He was united in marriage with Mary Peters December 15, 1906, at Orange City, and to this union were born four children, one son and three daughters.

Mr. Sinkey was engaged in the Implement business in Ireton for 23 years. Later he worked in the Sinkey garage until he was compelled to quit because of poor health. He served on the Ireton council for several terms and took an active part in civic affairs.

He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; and four children, Clarence Sinkey, Mrs. Sam Westra, Mrs. John Verbrugge and Mrs. Gilbert Broxvoort, all of Ireton. He also leaves one brother, William Sinkey of Orange City and three sisters, Mrs. C. Pogge of Renewick; Mrs. T. Ver Brugge of Armstrong, and Mrs. Dena Van Der Ploeg of Minneapolis and seven grandchildren, Marlin and Eldon Westra, Calvin, Glenn and Verlyn Verbrugge and Stanley and Mavia Sinkey, all of Ireton.
