Jacob Sinkey, 89, of Hawarden, formerly of Ireton, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998, at the Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.

Funeral services were at 2 P.M. Monday, December 7, at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton with Rev. John Engbers officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Visitation was Sunday, with the family present from 5 to 6:30 P.M. at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Ireton.

Jake Sinkey was born October 4, 1909, six miles west of Ireton, the son of William and Nellie (Wiersma) Sinkey. He married Reka Vande Kieft on October 5, 1930, at Ireton. He started in the garage business in Craig, living there for over a year before moving to Ireton. He acquired the Studebaker Franchise in 1940. He handled that until 1953 and then took on the Chrysler line of vehicles. Jake sold out and retired in 1978.

He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Reka, of Hawarden; son, Arthur, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two daughters and their husbands, Wanda and Melvin Cooke, of Ida, Missouri, and Nelma and James De Baacke, of Sioux City; brother, Bill Sinkey, of Sanborn; three sisters, Jo Riepma and husband, Ted, of Sioux Center, Bertha Peters and husband, Clarence, of Orange City, and Minnie Eisma, of Ireton; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jake was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Lorna Sinkey and two brothers, Peter and Frank.
