Arlene Hartog, 74, of Orange City died Monday, May 29, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. A funeral service was Thursday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City with the Rev. Timothy Ouwinga officiating. A a graveside service was Thursday at the Harrison, South Dakota, Cemetery.

Miss Hartog was born on June 27, 1931, at Armour, South Dakota, the daughter of Tony and Elizabeth (De Waard) Hartog. She was raised on a farm near Armour. In-1976, she moved to Orange City. Several years later, she became a resident of the Hope Haven Residential Training Center, in rural Orange City. On September 4, 2003, she transferred to the Heritage House.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, and she was active in the Friendship Bible study program. She enjoyed listening to and singing hymns, listening to church services on the radio and watching them on television, playing table games, visiting with friends and nursing home staff, and going on outings.

Survivors include her sister and her husband, Ann and Merlyn Dykstra of Orange City; seven nephews and nieces; and 20 great-nephews and great-nieces.
