Alice Koele, 87, of Hull died Thursday, October 26, at the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Funeral service was Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Verlyn Boone officiating. Interment was at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Mrs. Koele was born on May 25, 1919, at Steen, Minnesota, the daughter of Arend John and Harmtye (Boer) Bos. She was raised in Minnesota, and George and Boyden. On February 21, 1946, she married Edward Koele at Boyden. They farmed at Hull for 25 year's. In 1972, they moved into Hull. He died December 28, 1995, in Sioux Center. In 1999, she became a resident of the Homestead Cooperative of Hull.

She was a homemaker and also a certified nurse's aide at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. For 10 years, she served as a foster grandparent with the Area Education Agency. She was a member of First Reformed Church. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, gardening (both flowers and vegetables), and in earlier years, she liked to go fishing.

Survivors include four sons, Edwin Koele and his wife Linda and Glenn Koele and his wife Peggy, all of Hull, Richard Koele of Sioux City and Warren Koele and his wife Mary of Hull; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; a brother and his wife, Gerrit and Bets Bos of Ontario, California; three sisters, Johanna Freerks of Long Beach, California, Lena Groen of Rock Valley and Henrietta and her husband Gerrit Korthals of Boyden; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Bos of Sedalia, Missouri.

She was also preceded in death by two infant sons; a brother, Gerrit John Bos; and five sisters, Bertha Bliek, Dena Klarenbeek, Minnie Klarenbeek) Carrie Koele and Gertrude Siebrands. Memorials may be directed to the Foster Grandparents Program
