In Memory of Wilbur Huisman

Funeral services were Sat. Feb. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Central Reformed Church with the Rev. Brian Steenhoek officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Huisman was born to Jake and Mary (Ekema) Huisman on Dec. 15, 1925 in Orange City. He graduated from Sioux Center High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1944, serving in the Phillipines as a sergeant with the 771st Air Forces Base Unit until his discharge in 1946. He married Tena Dykstra at Camp Roberts, CA on Feb. 18, 1945.

He was a member of Central Reformed Church, American Legion Post 199, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6129 and the fire Dept, all of Sioux Center.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years; eight children, Diane and Lyle Van Roekel of Sioux Center, Veryl and Pat of Pierre, S.D., Bob of Corona CA., Jean and Wayne Te Grotenhuis of Sioux Center, Deb and Mike Melvin of Torrance, CA., Mary Bomgaars of Sioux Center, and Carol and Phil Traczyk of Arvada, CO; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley and Wayne Vermeer of Clearwater, FLA; and a sister-in-law, Geneva Huisman of Sioux Center.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Veryl Don and Bernard; a son, Jerry; a son-in-law, Norm Bomgaars; and a grandson.
