Roy Dwayne Bodle, 84, Sheldon, died Wednesday, September 22, at Northwest Iowa Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon.

Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 27, at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, with the Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Burial will be at Nassau Township Cemetery in Alton, with military graveside services by the Sheldon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7354, and Sheldon American Legion Post 145. Visitation will be after 2 P.M. Sunday, September 26, with family present 2-4 P.M., at the funeral home.

Roy Bodle, son of Grover C. and Marie C. (Legg) Bodle, was born November 10, 1919, in Gaylord, Kansas. He received his education in Gaylord and graduated from Gaylord High School in 1938. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He moved to Sioux City and graduated from Sioux City Barber College in 1941. He worked in Alton and Sheldon.

He married Minerva Van Laar on January 11, 1942, in Alton. They made their home in Sheldon. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was called back into service during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to his barbershop in Sheldon, where he continued to work until his retirement in 1983. Mrs. Bodle died September 10, 2003.

He was a past member of United Methodist Church in Sheldon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7354 and Sheldon American Legion Post 145. He enjoyed investing in the stock market and reading.

Survivors include a daughter, Leane K. Bodle of Manson; a son, Brion and Cindy Bodle of Wallingford; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minerva Bodle; two brothers, Dwight Campbell and Benjamin Bodle; and a sister, Alice Villanueva.
