Alice Gerritsen was born June 25, 1915 at Rock Valley, daughter of Gerrit and Hilda (Sterkenburg) Van Voorst. She married Ernest Burgers on February 9, 1938 at Sioux Center. Together they farmed in the Rock Valley area until Ernest died April 11, 1969. Alice married Frank Gerritsen on September 4, 1980 at Rock Valley. Together they lived North East of Rock Valley. Frank died October 10, 1992. Alice moved to the Valley Manor in February of 2002.

Alice died Thursday, August 22, 2002 at the Valley Manor. She was 87 years one month and 27 days of age. Her funeral service was at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 26, 2002 at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa. The Rev. Michael Van Hamersveld officiated. Interment was in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, Iowa.

Surviving relatives include step-son Jacob Gerritsen of Sheldon, Iowa; step-daughter and her husband Jean and Merlyn Hubers of Rock Valley; two brothers and their wives, John G. “Hans” and Eileen Van Voorst of Sioux Center, Iowa, Garret and Harriet Van Voorst of Inwood, Iowa; sister and her husband Minnie and Art Dirksen of Ripon, California; sister-in-law Lucy Van Voorst of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Gertrude Louwerse of Sioux Center, Iowa; brother-in-law and wife Hans and Lyda Burgers of Sioux Center, Iowa; 3 step-grandchildren, Michael Hubers of Mexico, Jodi Sears of Marion, Indiana, and Mark Hubers of Seattle, Washington.

Alice was preceded in death by her two husbands, Ernest Burgers and Frank Gerritsen; son Ron Burgers, Brother Richard G. Van Voorst.
