Rev. Paul Williams of Hawarden officiated at a funeral services for Mrs. Ben Smizer, 81, well known Akron resident at the First Baptist church in Akron, Tuesday. Mrs. Smizer died Saturday at the home of her son, Charles, following a stroke. Interment was at Riverside cemetery.

Lora Edna Smizer was born February 22, 1878, a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Fletcher, at Durham, MO, where she received her schooling.

She married Ben Smizer, September 20, 1900, and the following spring moved to Iowa, locating in a farm in Plymouth county and later in Sioux county.

In 1918 they moved to the Akron vicinity and farmed until in December of 1942, when they moved into their home at Akron.

Mrs. Smizer was a member of the Baptist church, the Ladies Aid society and the Embroidery club.

Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters, four brothers, an only daughter, Viola, who died June 26, 1940, and her husband Ben, who died on November 16, 1944.

Survivors include two sons, Percy, who resided with his mother, and Charles, who lives south of Akron; a brother, Art Fletcher of Custer, SD; a sister, Pearl Mar Dille of Fort Morgan, CO, and four grandchildren.

Those from Hawarden attending the funeral included Mrs. Henry Ronsiek, Mrs. Marge Rembe, Mr. & Mrs. Alfred Falk, Mr. & Mrs. John Orton, Jr., Mrs. John Orton, Sr. and Hans Swanson.

Relatives who came from a distance included Raymond Hadfield and Mr. & Mrs. Otto Minch of Palmyra, MO; Art Fletcher of Custer; Mr. & Mrs. Curt Johnson of Dell Rapids, SD, and Mr. & Mrs. Leo Blyth of Sioux Falls.
