Rock Valley, IA: Klazina Vander Sanden, 88, of Rock Valley, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Whispering Heights holding her husband’s and children’s hands. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Garry Nyenhuis officiating. There will be a private family burial prior to the service at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the First Reformed Church. Klazina was born January 3, 1926 to Gerrit and Dora (Buma) Visser. She attended country school near Inwood, Iowa, went on to high school there, and graduated when she was 16 years old. She continued her education at Sioux Falls College for a business and a secretarial course. During World War II, Klazina traveled to California to work as a secretary at the Boeing Aircraft Company to help in the war effort.

Klazina married Clarence Vander Sanden December 12, 1946 in Rock Valley, Iowa. To this union 5 children were born. Together they hosted foreign exchange students Martha Malo from Ecuador and Nicole Madaeux from France. Before raising their family, she worked at the Rock Valley Elevator Company and returned there in 1976, after 30 years on the farm by Inwood. She learned to run computers and modern technology at the age of 86 and often emailed and facebooked on her iPad to grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She knew her Savior Jesus and was a lifetime member at First Reformed Church.

Surviving relatives include her husband of 67 years, Clarence; children, Devonne (Richard) Bos of Inwood, June (Delbert) Knobloch of Rock Valley, Peggy (Paul) Watland of Twin Falls, ID, Violet (Patrick) McNamara of Pembroke Pines, FL; daughter-in-law, Connie Vander Sanden of Inwood; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Brower of Prescott Valley, AZ; and sister-in-law, Lucy Visser of Inwood, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jerry Vander Sanden; great-grandson, Ike Rentchler; brother, Elmer Visser; sister, Agnes (Rev. Gerrit) Boerfyn and brother-in-law, Ken Brower.
