Mrs. Jay (Lena) Ashmore, 77, of Hawarden died unexpectedly Monday, June 27,1983, at her residence.Services were at 1:30 pm. Thursday in the Associated Church. Rev. Fredrich Mellberg officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under direction of Dow Funeral Home, Hawarden.

Mrs. Ashmore, the former Lena Jansma, was born September 28, 1905, in Orange City. She married Jay Ashmore May 5, 1936, in Sioux Center. He died August 4,1962. She lived in Hawarden all her married life, working for Otis Radio for 18 years and at Tom's Cafe for 10 years.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Harriett) Bruget and Mrs. Tom (Fran) Burke, both of Hawarden; two sisters, Lillian Jansma of Hawthorne, CA, and Mrs. Anna Mae Taylor of Downey, CA; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
