Marie Gerritsma, 81, of Sioux Center died Wednesday, April 28 at Sioux Center Community Health Center.

Services were at 10 a.m., Monday at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Revs. Dan Gritter, David Stevenson and John Witvliet officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Gerritsma was born November 30, 1917, in Hull, the daughter of Antoon & Marie (Ten Brink) Ten Harmsel. She graduated from Sioux Center Christian School and Western Christian High School. She married Ernest Gerritsma, April 12, 1945, in Sioux Center. She taught school for 10 years at Rock Valley Christian, four years at Christian Hope Center and for Hope Haven. She also taught piano lessons for many years.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where she served as organist for more than 50 years. She was also a member of Gleaners Forum and the Golden Hour Circle.

Survivors include her husband, five children: Sylvan & Karen of St. Catharines, Ontario; Mary Gerritsma and Earl Groenewegen of Toronto, Ontario, Lois & Donald Sinnema of Blue Island, IL; Ruth & David Stevenson of Leighton; Jane & Dan Gritter of Holland, MI; three sisters, Minnie Meyer of Zeeland, MI; Johanna Ten Harmsel and Henrietta Ten Harmsel, both of Grand Rapids, MI; 13 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Herman, Harry, John and Gerrit, and two sisters, Fanny and Jennie.
