John Gort, 75, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of Doon, died Sunday, October 4, in Tulsa.

Visitation with the family will be 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday with a prayer service at 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Porter Funeral Home at Rock Valley. Burial will be at 11 a.m., Thursday at the Hope Cemetery at Hull.

Gort was born November 28, 1922 at Doon, the son of Jasper & Winnie (Buwalda) Gort.

He graduated from Doon High School and then obtained a professional engineering degree.

He served in the Air Force during World War II. He married Faye De Ruiter October 17, 1940 at Doon.

The couple had been living in Tulsa, where he was a member and an elder of the Christ Covenant Presbyterian Church for many years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Jack & Donna Gort of Clifton Park, New York; Clifford & Esther Gort of Hull and Larry & Kathy Gort of Windsor, Ontario, Canada; two daughters and their husbands: June & Jim Burem of Kingspoint, Tennessee, and LaVonne & Kelly Peterson of Rupert, Idaho; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Earl & Dolores Gort of Doon; and two sisters and their husbands, Mildred & Harold B. Vermeer of Sioux Center and Joyce and John Santama of Rock Valley.

Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, National Heart Association or the National Cancer Foundation.
