Hawarden Independent of Sept 26, 1918

Mrs. C. B. Griffin, one of the first residents of Hawarden, died Wednesday, Sept. 18th at Salem Ore. Her three sons, William, Rea and Ralph, accompanied the body to Hawarden and funeral services were held at the Congregational parsonage in this city Monday afternoon. Rev. Atcheson, of West Point, Neb., preached the funeral sermon, and the body was laid to rest in Grace Hill cemetery beside the grave of her husband.

Agnes R. Findlay was born in Clarence Cedar County Iowa Jan 18, 1858. She made her home there until her marriage to Charles B. Griffin which occurred Jan 31, 1883. Soon after their marriage they came to Hawarden and Mr. Griffin assisted in the construction of some of the first buildings erected here. They spent a few years on a farm near here and then returned to Hawarden to live. Her husband passed away in 1904. She continued to make her homes here until five years ago when she went to Oregon to be near her sons who had previously located in the west.

She was survived by here three manly sons. William Griffin of Cornelius OR, and Rea and Ralph Griffin of Vancouver WA, who have the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement for the death of their loving and affectionate mother. She is also survived by one sister and four brothers, Mrs. Jas. Spear, W. A. Findlay, and C. S. Findlay of Stanwood Iowa, and J. H. and J. P. Finlay of Harlan, Iowa. All were present at the funeral.
