Marvin “Mike” Altena, 76, died at his home in Pipestone, of kidney disease, on March 25, 2004.

Mike was born to Henry and Effie (Broek) Altena on February 16, 1928 in Ireton. He moved with his parents to a farm near Alvord, where he was raised and attended country school. He married Marian Postma in Rock Valley on September 7, 1951. They farmed near Rock Valley and Larchwood. In 1958 they purchased a farm west of Pipestone, MN. and lived there until they retired on December 13, 1989.

He is survivor by his wife; four children, Clare Veldhuizen and husband Chris of Edgerton, Evonne Kas and her husband Richard, of Woodstock, MN., Harlan and his wife, Ann Altena of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Rodney and his wife Karen Altena of Pipestone; six granddaughters and six grandsons; three brothers, Sam and Wilma Altena of George, twin brother Dick and Winifred of Ireton, and Louis and Albertha Altena of Rock Valley; two sisters, Julia and her husband, James Blankespoor of Chicago, Illinois, and Marlene Te Slaa of Rock Valley.
