Dan De Vries, 88 of Maurice died on Monday, August 3, at his rural Maurice home.

There will be a funeral service on Wed. August 5, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Ireton. The Rev. H. H. Schauland will officiate. Interment will follow at Sheridan Township Cemetery in rural Maurice. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today Tues. with the family present from 6:30-8:30 at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

De Vries, who was known as Dan, was born Nov. 3, 1909 in rural Maurice,, the son of Jelle and Gertrude (Vande Weerd) De Vries. He was raised at Maurice and, as an adult, lived in various places. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army.

On Feb. 12, 1946, he married Clara De Bruin at Maurice. They farmed in the Struble and Maurice areas. Mrs. De Vries died on Jan. 4, 1986 in Sioux Falls. S.D.

De Vries was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Ireton American Legion Post.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Carol and Roger Kooi of Sioux Falls, seven grandchildren, Shane Scott; Robyn Scott; Kandace and her husband, Palmer Roskamp; Larry Scott: Cindi and her huband, Mark Rossow; Stacey and her husband, Michael Kranz; and Nicholas Kooi; four great-grandchildren, Brett Scott, Kayla Rossow, Amanda Scott and Shelby Rossow; and a sister, Elsie Rosdail of Amana.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Muriel Scott; and eight brothers and sisters.
