Gertrude De Vries, 88 Inwood, died Wednesday, August 27, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Services were Sat. August 30, at Inwood Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. Rich Kooistra officiating. Burial was at Richland Cemetery in Inwood, under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Inwood, IA.

Gertrude De Vries, daughter of Ben and Annie (Brantsen) Mulder was born Aug. 23, 1915 in Sioux County. She was raised in the Rock Valley area and graduated from the eighth grade at Rock Valley Christian School.

She married Oscar De Vries on Feb. 27, 1939, on the Mulder farm near Rock Valley. They farmed near Inwood until 1947 when they began farming near Alvord.

They retired in 1974 and moved into Inwood. Mr. De Vries died in 1993.

She had many hobbies, including baking, home canning and gardening. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, David and Linda De Vries of Alvord, and Oscar and Lori De Vries of Sioux Falls, SD; three daughters, Gertrude and Abe Van Roekel of Boyden, Arlene and John Kooistra of Beaver Creek, MN, and Joyce and John Tracy of Marionville, MO; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a brother Fred and Jo Mulder of Luverne, MN; and special friends, Phil, Bev and Dustin Brouwer all of Inwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, a granddaughter, Julie Kiel; a son-in-law Arie Kiel; four brothers, Ray Mulder, Ben Mulder, Tom Mulder and John Mulder; and three sisters, Ella Brinkman, Lillian Vande Vegte and Margaret Den Boer.
