Mrs. Sarah “Sally” Guthmiller, age 75, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the Orange City Area Health System in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, June 20, at 11:00am, at the American Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Gary Hegstad will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a private family prayer service on Friday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Sarah Louise was born on May 4, 1939, in Olivet, South Dakota, the daughter of Elmer M. and Opal Vivian (Wintersteen) Johnson. She was raised in the Olivet area, where she attended Menno High School and then Southern State Teachers College, graduating in 1958, with a business degree.

On November 22, 1958, she married Donnie Willie Guthmiller in Olivet. They moved to many different places, eventually settling in Orange City in the summer of 1969. “Sally” had a number of jobs, but was employed at the Northwestern State Bank in Orange City for over twenty years.

She was an active member of the American Reformed Church.

Sally enjoyed doing handwork, stitching, playing cards with her club, and cleaning. She also loved coffee and conversation. She had a large collection of antique dishes and cut glass. She dearly and truly loved all nine of her grandchildren and attended their sporting events and activities.

She is survived by her husband of over 55 years, “Don”; her four children and their spouses, Marty and Tami Guthmiller, of Orange City; D. Scott and Janet Guthmiller, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Jeff and Renee Guthmiller, of Orange City; and Shantel and Jay Van Gelder, of Spencer; nine grandchildren, Jameson Guthmiller, and his wife, Nicole; Brett Guthmiller; Casey Guthmiller; Katie Guthmiller; Emily Guthmiller; Sean Guthmiller, and his fiancé, Abby Van Gorp; Jennifer Guthmiller; Shayler Van Gelder; and Kamdyn Van Gelder; her mother, Opal Johnson, of Orange City; her brother, Larye Johnson, of Scotland, South Dakota; and a brother-in-law, Charles Zeeb, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

In addition to her father, Sally was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hannah Rae Guthmiller; her sister, Donna Mae Zeeb; and a sister-in-law, Joan Johnson.

Memorials will be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice and the Orange City Area Health System.
