As a child, Arie came to the United States with his family, and they settled south of Orange City.

He worked on a Kosters farm at Sioux Center for several years. Since the 1960's he had made his home on the Hanemaayer farm, west of Orange City, where he was a laborer.

In 1986, he became a resident of the Long Term Facility at Orange City Municipal Hospital, where he passed away.

Survivors include his niece, Marie Turner of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Peter and his wife Mary, and two sisters, Hattie and Jennie.
