Sam Smit, 80, of Sheldon, died Wednesday, November 15, in Orange City Memorial Hospital.

Services are Saturday, November 18, in Hospers Christian Reformed Church with Dr. Peter Y. DeJong officiating. Burial is in the Hospers Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sheldon.

Mr. Smit, son of Jim and Wilemina (Pott) Smit, was born February 2, 1909, in Hospers. He married Annie Van Bruggen March 17, 1938, in Sheldon. She died May 28, 1981. He married Margaret Klynsma October 19, 1983, in Hospers. A retired farmer, he moved into Sheldon in 1979.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Elaine (Mrs. Edwin) Kats, Rock Valley, Aletha (Mrs. Ivan) Blom, Aurora, Colorado, and Sandy (Mrs. Verlyn) Baker of Dayton, Ohio; two step-daughters, Jolene (Mrs. Charles) Vande Kamp, Hospers and Carolyn (Mrs. Danny) Heltenberg, Yuma, Colorado; two sons, Arvin of Edgerton, MN, and Paul of Hospers; two stepsons, Norman Klysma, Hospers, and Franklin Klynsma, Sioux City; two sisters, Jennie (Mrs. John) Waanders of Hospers and Winnie Poppema of Sheldon; two brothers, Joe and Bill of Sheldon; a step-brother, Frank Klynsma, Sanborn; 46 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
