Sandra Lee (Williamson) Heynen was born on August 30, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa to G.I. and Doris Williamson. Sandra married Gerrit William Heynen on August 19, 1964 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA. They farmed together on the Heynen Century Farm north of Sioux Center for the past 24 years.
Sandra spent many happy years as a wife and homemaker, raising four children with her faithful husband, Gary, being active at Bethel CRC. Later she enjoyed working in the Dordt College Library for close to 20 years. At the time of her death, she was a non-traditional senior at Dordt College.
Sandra was a loving mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren brought great joy and she was a source of joy in their lives as well. Her greatest gift to those who loved her was her faith in God, which she faithfully displayed to them through word and deed to the very last day of her life.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Gary, daughter and son-in-law Twila and Vinny De Groot of Hull; sons and daughter-in-law; Craig and Karen Heynen of Mt. Vernon, WA; David and Arlene Heynen of Hull and Philip and Lisa Heynen of Hanford, CA; her six grandchildren; Benjamin De Groot, Samuel De Groot, Tabetha De Groot, Joshua Heynen, Joel Heynen, and Emilee Sandra Heynen; her parents, Rev. G. I.and Doris Williamson of Sheldon; sisters and brothers-in-law; Cathy and Dan Engelsman of Sheldon and Nancy and Larry Cambier of Custer, S.D. father-in-law and mother-in-law Tony and Hermina Heynen of Sioux Center and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glen and Diane Heynen of Dell Rapids, S.D. along withi nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Sandra died at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City Tuesday evening, Sept. 10, 2002 after a nine month battle with cancer. She had just celebrated her 57th birthday.
