Vernon "Butch" Esser, former resident of Hawarden, died May 22 at the Veterans Hospital at Minneapolis following an extended illness.

Mr. Esser was born at Cleghorn, Iowa but spent most of his early life in Hawarden.. He attended the Hawarden schools and was graduated from high school in 1928. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Esser is survived by two sons, Terry of Berkeley, Calif, and William of Ashton, Ore.; and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Hortori of Hawarden and Mrs. Raymond Null of Franklin Park, IL. Burial was in the National Cemetery at Minneapolis.
