RESIDED HERE FOR 32 YEARS AND WAS PENSIONED BY THE NORTHWESTERN COMPANY 7 YEARS AGO

C.A. Anderson, a pioneer resident of Hawarden, passed away about 2:30 Sunday morning at his home in the south part of town. He had been failing in health for the past two or three years but had been bedfast most of the time since last September. Death was due to senile pneumonia from which he suffered the last few days of his life.

Carl August Anderson was born in Melby, Sweden, July 4, 1848, and passed away at Hawarden January 11, 1925, so was 76 years, 6 months and 7 day old. He joined the Lutheran Church in Sweden when a young man. He was united in marriage with Miss Louise Johnston May 28, 1878, and this union was blessed with twelve children, three of whom preceded him in death. Elmer and Clarence died in infancy and Gilbert passed away November 19, 1918. In April, 1884, he with his family immigrated to America and located at Gowrie, Iowa, for nine years, where he was employed by the Northwestern Railway Company. He came to Hawarden in 1893 and continued in the employ of the Northwestern Company. He was pensioned by the Company about seven years ago after having been in their employ continuously for more than thirty years. Mr. Anderson was a splendid type of citizen and was always reliable and faithful in whatever capacity he was employed. He always looked on the bright side of life and took things as they came. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed in the family circle. Besides his wife he is survived by nine children, John Godfrey and Charles A. Anderson and Mrs. Evelyn Lawton of Hawarden, Mrs. Signa Brandow of Omaha, Mrs. Alma Passdehl of Wynot, Nebraska, Gust N. Anderson of Huron, South Dakota, Mrs. Florence Moyers of Sioux City, Mrs. Lillian Smith of Denver, Colorado, and Miss Vivian Anderson of Minneapolis. He also leaves eight grandchildren to mourn him.

Funeral services were held from the home at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with Rev. A.M. McIntosh of Sioux City, former pastor of the Presbyterian Church in this city, in charge. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery.
