Born: December 22, 1859 Dixon, Illinois
Died: November 12, 1929 Ireton, Iowa

T.C. Shoemaker, a resident of this community for 46 years, passed away suddenly at his home without warning a trifle after midnight Tuesday morning. He had always enjoyed the best of health until a short time before his death which came as a shock to the entire community.

Funeral services were held this afternoon from the Methodist Church, Rev. Wm. Webb of Oto, Iowa and Rev. F. Kruwell, pastor of the local Methodist church, officiating. The services were in charge of the M.W. of A. of Ireton of which lodge the deceased was a member.

Theodore Castle Shoemaker, son of William and June Shoemaker was born in Dixon, Ill. December 22, 1859, and died November 12,, 1929 at the age of 69 years, 10 months, and 20 days. At the age of 18 years he came to Iowa and settled at Odebolt. On March 19, 1891 he was united in marriage with Louise Paeper of Odebolt and in the spring of 1883 they came to Sioux County, which has been their home continuously since then. To this happy union seven children were born, two of whom have preceded him in death, Charles Sanford in 1909 and Edward Leroy in 1927. Those who survive him besides a loving and devoted wife, are two sons, William of Ireton, and John of Parker, S. D.; and three daughters, Mrs. Ella Kern and Mrs. Estelle Golden of Le Mars, Iowa and Miss June of Ireton. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Ambrose Hodges of Rochelle, Ill., Miss Mary Shoemaker of Ashton, Ill., and Mrs. Lucinda Traver of Creighton, Nebraska. Mr. Shoemaker was among the old settlers of Sioux County, he and his wife having resided on a farm 4 1/2 miles east of Ireton until the spring of 1913 when they moved to Ireton.

Mr. Shoemaker was highly respected by all, having been a man of honesty and good intentions. Having lived an active life he will be greatly missed. He was on the streets Monday afternoon and seemed unusually content and feeling better than for some time. The death angel made a sudden call a little after midnight Tuesday morning and without struggle or murmur he passed into eternity. The wife, who for nearly 49 years has walked by his side, has lost a devoted husband and the children a father who always had their intentions at heart. The last few years Mr. Shoemaker was a member of the Cemetery Association in which he showed excellent judgment and took special pride in having our city of the dead made one of the most beautiful to be found. He had many friends who will miss him and the sympathy of all goes to the bereaved.
