Funeral services for Eugene Boone, 60, of Rock Rapids will be held at the First Reformed Church. The Rev. William De Young will officiate. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, Iowa, with Jongewaard-Roste Funeral Home making arrangements.

He died Monday, October 13, 1986, at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Eugene was born February 28, 1926, in Sioux County. He grew up in the Hospers-Boyden area and graduated from Newkirk High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. On August 30, 1949, he married Jean Olson at Sanborn. They farmed in the Boyden area. For 12 years they operated the newspaper in Sanborn before moving to Adrian, MN, in 1963. In 1966 they moved to Luverne, MN, where they lived until moving to Rock Rapids in 1973. During their years in Rock Rapids, Gene worked as a sales representative for Lyon County Reporter. He was a member of the American Legion and the First Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; two sons, Stephen of Rochester, MN., and Jeffrey of St. Cloud, MN.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Rebecca) Hammett of St. Paul, MN, six grandchildren; his mother, Hattie Boone, in a nursing home in Sheldon; and three brothers, Bernard, Erwin, and Thelmar, all of Sheldon.

The Reporter office will not be open Thursday afternoon until after the services.
