Melba (Kane) Stickel of Hawarden, died Friday, September 7, 2001, at Hillcrest Health Care Cenyer in Hawarden. Funeral Mass was held Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden with the Rev. LeRoy Seuntjens and Deacon Joe Maher officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Melba H. Stickel was born October 9, 1920 in Matlock, Iowa, to Michael and Mary (Putnam) Kane. She moved to Hawarden at an early age and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1938. She married Lyle Stickel November 20, 1941 at Hawarden. Mr. Stickel died November 10, 1968.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Kelly of Denver, Colorado, and Rocky of Pacific Palisades, California; six daughters, Mary McCook of Longmont, Colorado, Dale Schwiesow of Hawarden, Deb McKellips of Alcester, Bridget Miller of Norwalk, Iowa, Shawn Stickel of Reading Massachutes, and Shannon Flynn of Silverthorne, Colorado; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Miller of Portland, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; parents; four brothers and one sister.
