Marvin John Vande Hoef, 59, of Le Mars died Tuesday, October 29, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill with the Rev. Klaus Raab officiating. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center.

Vande Hoef was born December 23, 1942, in Sioux Center to John and Grace (Westerbeek) Vande Hoef. He graduated from Sioux Center Community High School in 1961. During his high school years, he began learning carpentry and construction skills. Following high school he worked construction building homes. He married Sharon Marienau on June 14, 1963. He worked for Gene Plueger Construction for several years. In 1981, the family moved to Oklahoma and later to Georgia where he continued working as a carpenter until returning back to Le Mars in 1988. In 1991, he began working for Well’s Dairy at the North Ice Cream Plant. He continued to work for Well’s till his health caused early retirement.

He loved to play pool and enjoyed playing in the Eagles Club Tournament. He enjoyed yard work and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of Le Mars; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Suzanne Vande Hoef of Le Mars and Robert and Angel Vande Hoef of Le Mars; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; five brothers and sisters, Janice and Henry Bochove of Inwood, Bill Vande Hoef of Alton, Harlan and Rochelle Vande Hoef of Sioux Center, Debra and Roger Van Bruggen of Hospers and Beverly and Allen Hooyer of Sioux Center; his stepmother, Alie Vande Hoef of Rock Valley; his father-in-law, Marvin Marienau of Le Mars; two sisters, Eunice Reiter and her special friend Jeff Eppinga and Patsy Gengler and her husband Bill of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sheila Rae Vande Hoef, in infancy; two brothers in infancy; and his mother-in-law, Alverda Marienau.
