William Dean Whittington, 57, Rapid City, South Dakota, died Wednesday May 1, 2013. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 in Black Hawk Community Church.

Dean was born November 17, 1955, at Hawarden, to William H. and Edna (Vande Hoef) Whittington. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Hawarden.

Dean started learning his carpentry trade at an early age, building pole barns. He eventually moved to Mitchell, S.D., where he met Andrea Dunnam. They married April 12, 1976 in Mitchell. They moved to Rapid City where he became a finish carpenter.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Destiny Whittington of Mitchell and Honor Evers of Rapid City; one son, Seth Whittington of Spearfish, S.D.; five grandchildren; his mother Edna Royston of Mitchell; and three brothers, Dennis Whittington of Hawarden, David Whittington of Boise, ID and Drew Whittington of Minneapolis, MN.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Harley Whittington; and two sisters, Lynn Whittington and Amy Whittington.
