Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa: Walter E. Busch Jr., 73, of Hawarden, Iowa died Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Hawarden with Father Terry Roder officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation will be from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden on Thursday, January 30, 2014. Visitation, with family present, will be held at 5:30 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Thursday. Walter Ernest Busch Jr. was born at rural Chatsworth, Iowa on February 27, 1940, son of Walter Ernest and Clara Ann (Schumacher) Sr. Walt grew up attending school at Chatsworth and Hawarden and later went on to complete his GED. He served his country as a member of the United States Army, serving 19 months in Korea. Walt married Barbara Dunn in 1965 and they made their home in Hawarden. She and her infant son, Jeffrey, who died shortly after birth, died in August of 1965, following an auto accident. In December of 1968, Walt married Judy Swanson. To this union, three children were born. Walt started working in Sioux City at Kay-Dee Stockyards and then was employed by the beef plant in Hawarden. He finished his career with John Morrell in Sioux City. Walt enjoyed playing cards and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Walt is survived by his three children, Tina Busch of Hull, Iowa; Kimberly (Hank) Tritz of Le Mars, Iowa; and Michael (Chelon) Busch of Sioux City, Iowa; six grandchildren; Austin, Chase, Sydney, Tate, Allie, and Will; two sisters, Kathy (Larry) Goodmanson of Canby, Minnesota; and Mary Lou Maxwell of Farmer City, Illinois; sister-in-law, Maureen Schiefen of Hawarden; and many nieces and nephews.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffrey; his first wife, Barbara; two brothers, Duane and Denny Busch; and brother-in-law, Dennis Maxwell.
