Mrs. Susan J. Miller, age 53, of Hospers, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, February 4, at 10:00am, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hospers. The Rev. Dr. Brian Janssen will officiate. Interment will be at the Hospers Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

Susan Joy was born on September 2, 1960, in Orange City, the daughter of Wallace Dean and Alma June (Roos) Hofmeyer. She was raised at Hospers and graduated from the Floyd Valley High School.

On May 2, 1980, she married Mark Wayne Miller at the First Presbyterian Church in Hospers. They made their home in Hospers, where she was a homemaker. Currently, she was also the customer service representative for Beeler’s Pure Pork in Le Mars.

Sue was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and had participated in some of the women’s activities.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, camping, hiking, and kayaking. She was known as a bargain shopper and liked making crafts, especially rustic pieces.

Survivors include her husband of more than 33 years; four sons, Brandon Miller, and his wife, Kimberly, of Hospers; Brett Miller, and his wife, Amanda, of Kansas City, Missouri; and Brady Miller and Bryan Miller, both of Hospers; six grandchildren, Addaly, Breeah, Cargan, Samuel, Eliza, and Jackson Miller; her parents, of Hospers; a brother and his wife, Dennis and Linda Hofmeyer, of Hospers; three sisters and their husbands, Sharon and Kenneth Van Donslear, Diane and David Bosma, and Dawn and James Huisman, all of Hospers; father-in-law, Wayne Miller, of Hospers; and a brother-in-law, Don Remus, of Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Margaret Miller; and a sister-in-law, Mary Remus.

Memorials may be directed to the church or the donor’s choice.
