Gerrit Kroon, 85, of Boyden, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 1995 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Reformed Church in Boyden. The Rev. Mark Volkers officiated. Burial was in Sheridan Township Cemetery near Boyden under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home, Boyden.

Gerrit was born June 26, 1910 in Sioux Center, the son of Henry D. and Hattie (Van Roekel) Kroon. He grew up in West Branch Township. He married Mary Voortman March 23,1935 in Sioux Center. The couple first lived in Rock Rapids where he was in the auto salvage business, and then in Orange City where he was employed by Silent Sioux. They then farmed west of Carmel for several years, and in 1950 moved to a farm near Boyden. In 1959 the couple moved to Boyden where he worked as a painter and then for Farmers Co-operative Elevator, retiring in 1972.

Mr. Kroon was a member of the First Reformed Church where he served on the consistory as both a deacon and elder, and sang with the Senior Saints for several years.

Survivors include his wife; five children, Eleanor and her husband David Kaminga of Hoodsport, Wash., Lois and her husband Boyd Northey of Milford, Gerald and his wife Ruth of Sheldon, Audrey Rol of Lincoln, Neb., and Verlyn and his wife Geri of Omaha,' Neb.; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard of Sioux Center and the Rev. William of Hampton; and six sisters, Deila Vande Berg, Cornelia Kroon, Margaret Voortman, Berniece Baker and Clarence Kroon, all of Sioux Center and Arlone Vos from Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene; a brother, Neal; and two sisters, Gertrude Punt and Marilyn Kroon.
