ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - Louis Kroon, 88, of Rock Rapids died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Rock Rapids Health Centre. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. Burial was in the Hospers Cemetery, Hospers, Iowa under the direction of the Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Louis Kroon was born October 17, 1912 near Boyden, Iowa the son of John and Fennigje (Pruim) Kroon. He grew up in the Boyden, Iowa and Steen, Minnesota areas and later worked as a farmer. Louis moved to Hospers, Iowa and became a gas transport driver for Sheldon Transport Company. On February 28, 1935 Louis was united in marriage to Tena Uittenbogaard at her parents farm home between Sheldon and Hospers, After thirty-four years of marriage, his wife Tena died on May 28, 1967.

He later married Christine Vanden Top on October 17, 1969 at Inwood, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived in Hospers while Louis continued trucking. In 1989 Louis and Christine moved to Rock Rapids, 'Iowa and lived in an apartment. For the past eight years and three months Louis has been a resident of the Rock Rapids Health Centre. Last Tuesday evening he died there at the age of eighty-eight.

Surviving is his wife of thirty-one years, Christine of Rock Rapids, a son John Kroon and his wife Lila of Sheldon, a daughter Gladys Arends and her husband Robert of Sioux Falls and a daughter-in-law Barb Theis and her husband Leroy of Sheldon.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, seventeen greatgrandchildren, one great-great grandchild along with a stepdaughter Betty Bouma and her husband Henry of Luverne, MN, two stepsons Gilbert Vanden Top and his wife Leona of Rock Rapids and Robert Vanden Top and his wife Arlene of Rock Valley. Other survivors include sixteen step grandchildren and twenty-five step great grandchildren.

Preceding Louis in death were his parents, wife Tena, a son Larry, two brothers Ed and Herman, an infant brother, an infant sister, and a grandson Richard Arends. Blessed be the memory of Louis Kroon.
