Sioux Center: Funeral services were held here Thursday afternoon for Barend Koops, 81, who passed away at the home of his children, Mr. and Mrs. William Koops, the morning of October 8. He had been ill for many months with heart trouble and complications of old age.
Mr. Koops was born in Noord, Brabant, The Netherlands, on December 17, 1864, and the family came to America 25 years ago, coming directly to Sioux Center. He worked as sexton for 15 years, ut had to retire 7 years ago because of his failing health.
Surviving are two sons, William of Sioux Center, and Cornelius of Bellflower, Calif., and 13 grandchildren, three of whom, Bernard, James, and Albert, are in the service. There are also two great grandchildren, a brother, Arie, living in Canada, and a sister still living in the old country. His wife and a brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the home of his children, Mr. and Mrs. William Koops and at the First Reformed Church with Rev. Brunsting officiating.
