Fred A. Miller passed away early last Thursday morning, August 18, 1955 at his home in Rock Valley after an illness of several weeks.

Fred A. Miller was born on the farm in Garfield township, near Rock Valley, December 25, 1884, and had reached the age of 70 years, 7 months and 24 days. He married Emma Bauder, December 18, 1907. Four children were born to this union, all of whom survive. They are the two daughters, Ester, Mrs. Peter Van Driel, and Florence of Rock Valley, and two sons, Laurence of Parkland, Washington, and Alvin of Rock Valley.

He farmed in Garfield township until 1947 when he retired and moved into his home in Rock Valley where he spent the rest of his life. Mrs. Miller preceded him in death October 9, 1954.

He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Lee Clary of Rock Valley, and one brother, Emil of Hudson, South Dakota.

Mr. Miller was one of the oldest residents born in this area. He was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Peace Lutheran Church south of Rock Valley, as a young boy. He was a faithful member of this church all of his life and his passing is mourned by many relatives and friends. He was an ardent baseball fan. Mr. Miller was a corn sealer for this area from 1934 until his death. He was very active in co-operative work and helped organize the Community Oil Company as well as serving as officer and director of all the local and co-operatives.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 12:30 at the home and 1:00 at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. H. Prieb officiating. Pall bearers were Elmer Miller, Oscar Miller, Fred Yunker, Albert Muehlethaler and Earl and Kenneth Clay.
