Long-time town council member Alvin Miller, 69, Rock Valley died Saturday at a Sioux Falls, South Dakota Hospital after a long illness.

Services were held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Rock Valley. The Rev. James Rushton officiated. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery.

Mr. Miller was born March 5, 1915, at Rock Valley. He graduated in 1931 from Rock Valley High School and attended National Business Training School in Sioux City.

He married Gladyce Vander Poel July 2, 1940, at Rock Valley.

He worked at the Farmers Lumber Yard from 1937 until 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. After the war, he returned to Rock Valley and managed Farmers Lumber Yard until retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and was a member of the town council for 16 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary, Rock Valley, and Dan, El Cajon, California; a sister, Florence Miller, Rock Valley; and two grandchildren.
